BALANCE – AN EXPERIMENTAL BOOK
/ Side Project
/ Book Design
I didn’t know anything about typography, typesetting, or the difference between the two. I had no clue about analog photography nor the €10 camera I got at the flea market. Not to mention the means or skills to print and bookbind. Luckily, none of that mattered because I learned zero rules apply to translucent paper, anyway.
BALANCE is a (kinda educational™) typography book, printed on semi-transparent paper, that’s readable from the front and back. It’s handmade and designed as a layered graphical piece—a whole greater than the sum of its parts, if you will. With components either added or subtracted from one another (depending on how you read it) it makes for an engaging lil’ read but don’t your dare ask me for a copy.
Chapter 1: Intro to Layers
Chapter 2: The Anatomy of Type
Chapter 3: An Alphabet, revised
Chapter 4: The Elements of Type through analogue photography
